Like any good cycling shoe the Pro Race is predicated on having a killer sole. In this case its the Carbon HM X-Lite which as the name suggests is made from pure carbon fiber for unbeatable power transfer and weight savings. Carbons stiffness means that the sole is extra thin at just 4.3mm so you have a more efficient pedaling platform that along with the Pro Races 7mm of fore-aft cleat adjustment translates to less fatigue and faster times out on the road. At the heel Garneau included a thin replaceable heel pad which improves walking traction without interfering with pedaling. The best sole in the worlds a waste if your foots slipping around on top of it so Garneau made sure it outfitted the Pro Race with one of the best closure systems around. Two hook-and-loop straps secure the forefoot to prevent side-to-side slop and open away from the drivetrain for easy adjustment on the go but its the ratcheting instep strap thats the real star. In addition to ratcheting down for a tight adjustable fit the buckle can be moved laterally and vertically so you can find the spot where it works best for your feet.
